Sanya Mathura is an author and Managing Director of Strategic Reliability Solutions Ltd. She has a BS in Electrical & Computer Engineering and a MS in Engineering Asset Management. She is passionate about lubrication and its key role in reliability. Sanya lives in Trinidad and Tobago and shares her educational experiences and what drives her to be the best in her field and the need to bring her expertise to people in Trinidad and the Caribbean.

Acronyms, Definitions, and Fact Check

Trinidad & Tobago – Trinidad and Tobago is a dual-island Caribbean nation near Venezuela, with distinctive Creole traditions and cuisines.

Oil & Gas in Trinidad & Tobago – the country’s economy is primarily industrial, with an emphasis on petroleum and petrochemicals. The country’s wealth is attributed to its large reserves and exploitation of oil and natural gas. (wikipedia)

Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) – an examination board in the Caribbean. It was established in 1972 under agreement by the participating governments in the Caribbean Community to conduct such examinations as it may think appropriate and award certificates and diplomas on the results of any such examinations so conducted. The Council is empowered to regulate the conduct of any such examinations and prescribe the qualification requirements of candidates and the fees payable by them. It is now an examining body that provides educational certifications in 16 English speaking Commonwealth Caribbean Countries and Territories. (Wikipedia)

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE) – introduced in Trinidad and Tobago by the CXC about five years ago but has been in existence in some other CARICOM member countries for a longer period of time. The CAPE curriculum offers a modular approach with 1-unit and 2-unit courses. Advanced standing credit should be considered for appropriate 2-unit subjects, but is not recommended for 1-unit subjects, because they are more limited in scope.
